May 2026 graduates can now submit their OPT applications with USCIS.

The HIO will begin to send out OPT I-20s to May 2026 graduates who have submitted their requests over the past several weeks.  

As you begin to prepare your application for submission to USCIS, please review the below resources:

Please be aware that after the submission of your OPT application, you may receive a request to get additional photos or biometrics taken at a local Application Support Center (ASC) resulting from USCIS policy announced on 12/12/2025. Failure to comply with the request may result in a denial of your OPT application. 

If you are a May graduate who has not yet started the OPT application process remember, applying for OPT is a two-step process: 

• First, applicants need to request an OPT recommendation I-20 from the HIO.   

• Second, applicants will file their OPT applications with USCIS.
