CPT Instructions and Application – College
Eligibility and Authorization Procedures:
- College students can general information on the CPT process through College CPT Info Sheet
- After receiving an off-campus internship offer, a student should schedule time to meet with the concentration department advising team (i.e. Director of Undergraduate Studies).
- To obtain CPT work permission, a College student needs to receive approval from their concentration department on a specific course that best aligns with their off-campus practical training experience.
- Only after the College has approved the academic requirements for CPT, then the HIO can issue a new I-20 with the CPT work permission.
- For your planning purposes: the approximate timeline is roughly 1-2 weeks to confirm the academic course/component and 1 week to receive the new I-20 from the HIO.
Required CPT Documentation:
- Students will submit CPT request using the HIO College CPT Electronic Form
- Completed and signed HIO CPT College Academic Approval Form
- Internship offer letter from the off-campus location on official letterhead
