Know Your Rights webinars

First, we want to share a reminder of our next Know Your Rights information session, which will be held tomorrow morning, April 11, at 10 am Eastern. We will be joined by Susan Church, an immigration attorney with more than 25 years’ experience advocating for immigrant rights. Susan is currently employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as the Chief Operating Officer for the Massachusetts Office for Refugees and Immigrants. Any Harvard affiliate is invited to register for the April 11 session.

If you can’t attend this week’s session, we’ll be hosting another session with an immigration attorney from the Harvard Representation Initiative (HRI) on Thursday, April 17 at 11 am Eastern. Register for the April 17 session.

Visa revocations

We want to assure you that we continue to monitor the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) daily. Since we last communicated on Sunday, we’ve seen visa status changes for additional students and recent graduates. As of today, a total of seven students and five recent graduates have now had visa terminations reported through SEVIS. On an ongoing basis, upon discovering these status changes, we notify the individuals of the revocations and refer them to legal assistance.

To protect their privacy, the University cannot provide the identity of the individuals. We do not intend to provide any nonpublic access or sensitive information to any external party absent a legal directive to do so. We are not aware of the details of the revocations or the reasons for them, but we understand these actions continue to take place at other institutions across the country.

 Commencement

We have guidance for visitors who will be traveling from abroad to attend Commencement, reunions, or other similar events. We are committed to supporting our international students and scholars, and we want their families and friends to be able to celebrate the accomplishments of those who are graduating this year.

Frequently asked questions resource

To address ongoing needs for information, we will be launching an FAQ page on our website soon and will make an announcement when that page is available. We will update the page regularly, including with any potential future visa status change trends. Our website will continue to serve as a primary resource and source of information for the latest updates on U.S. immigration policies and practices that may affect our community.

If any students or scholars have questions, including those who have been recently admitted, please contact the HIO at your convenience. Thank you for your contributions to our community. We value the many ways in which students and scholars from across the globe contribute every day to the research, discovery, and learning that is central to Harvard’s mission.
