#  Department of State Consolidates Visa Processing to Regional Hubs in Africa

Beginning August 1, 2026, the U.S. Department of State will [**end routine** **visa** **services**](https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/visas-news/realignment-of-us-visa-services-in-africa-to-regional-hubs.html) at 25 embassies and consulates in Africa and shift those services to regional hubs.

Embassies and consulates that will no longer provide visa services are:

- Antananarivo, Madagascar
- Abuja, Nigeria
- Asmara, Eritrea
- Bamako, Mali
- Banjul, The Gambia
- Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo
- Bujumbura, Burundi
- Conakry, Guinea
- Cotonou, Benin
- Durban, South Africa
- Freetown, Sierra Leone
- Gaborone, Botswana
- Harare, Zimbabwe
- Juba, South Sudan
- Libreville, Gabon
- Lilongwe, Malawi
- Lusaka, Zambia
- Maputo, Mozambique
- Maseru, Lesotho
- Mbabane, Eswatini
- N’Djamena, Chad
- Niamey, Niger
- Nouakchott, Mauritania
- Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso
- Windhoek, Namibia

If you applied for a visa at any consulate listed here and are still waiting for your visa, please carefully monitor its status per the instructions of the consular post. We also suggest you periodically check the websites and official social media accounts for the consulate where you applied to make sure you receive any follow-up instructions regarding a pending application.

Applicants who would previously have gone to one of those consulates or embassies [**will be directed to use**](https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/list-of-posts-niv.html) one of the following designated regional visa hubs:
