#  Department of State Announces Expanded Vetting for H-1B Applicants and Dependents

The U.S. Department of State [**announced this week**](https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/visas-news/announcement-of-expanded-screening-and-vetting-for-h-1b-and-dependent-h-4-visa-applicants.html) that it will require an “online presence review” for all H-1B applicants and their H-4 dependents, beginning December 15.

Reviews of applicants’ online presence, including their social media accounts, are already required for F, M, and J nonimmigrant visas.

To facilitate these reviews, covered applicants will be required to set their privacy settings on all social media profiles to “public.”
