#  STEM OPT 6,18 Month Data Validation and 12, 24 Month Annual Evaluation 

 



## Summary

This page provides an overview of the reporting requirements for [F-1 students](/visas-immigration/student "Student Visas") on [STEM OPT](/employment-training/opt/stem "STEM OPT Guide"). Use this form If you've reviewed your SEVP Portal and have had no changes in your U.S. address or U.S. employment and are completing your 6- or 18-month data validation, or your 12- or 24-month evaluation, or your Cap Gap requirement.

## Step 1

Please review the information in your [SEVP Portal](https://sevp.ice.gov/opt/#/login) to ensure that you have had no changes since your last I-983 has been submitted to the HIO. You can request an [SEVP Portal reset,](/forms/sevp-portal-reset "SEVP Portal Reset") if needed.

## Step 2

If you require updates, please visit the follow pages depending on your update:

## Step 3

- Please complete the STEM OPT Data Validation & Annual Evaluation Reporting Form
- The 12-month Annual Evaluation requires a PDF of your Evaluation on Student Progress (top half of page 5 of the I-983).
- The 24-month Annual Evaluation and Cap Gap completion each requires a PDF of the Final Evaluation on Student Progress (bottom half of page 5 of the [I-983](https://www.ice.gov/doclib/sevis/pdf/i983.pdf)).

Upon completion of the above form, you will receive an email that serves as confirmation that your HIO STEM OPT Reporting form has been submitted along with your date of submission. Please retain this email for your records. If you want to check your STEM reporting history, you can view your SEVP portal. An [example of the reporting tracking table](https://studyinthestates.dhs.gov/assets/SEVP%20Portal%20Student%20User%20Guide%202024.pdf) can be found on page 44 of the linked document. Please note that it will take around two weeks for your data validation or annual evaluation to be reflected in the SEVP Portal.
