#  J-1 On-Campus Employment Authorization Request Form 

 



## Summary

This form is for Harvard [J-1 students](/visas-immigration/student "Student Visas") to request authorization for on-campus employment.

As a student on a J-1 visa, you must request authorization from the HIO prior to starting an on-campus position. On-campus employment includes teaching or research assistantships, fellowships, scholarships, or any other on-campus work.

J-1 on-campus employment authorization is valid for up to 12 months at a time. If you plan to continue working on-campus beyond your initially authorized period while continuing to be enrolled full-time, you must request a new authorization from the HIO. J-1 on-campus employment authorizations are specific to an individual on-campus role or position. If a J-1 student plans to work at more than one on-campus location, the student must request and obtain authorization from the HIO for each position prior to the employment start date(s).
