F-1 I-20 Extension

If you will not complete your degree requirements by the date listed on item #5 of your I-20, you will need to obtain an extension of your Form I-20 BEFORE your current document expires. Failure to extend your I-20 in a timely fashion will have negative consequences for your immigration status, so please allow enough time for the processing of your I-20 extension.

Please follow the instructions below on how to request an extension of your I-20:

Obtain documentation from your school/department indicating your new estimated completion date together with the source and amount of financial support for the remainder of your program. If you are using personal funds, please obtain a recent bank statement. Fill out a document request form http://www.hio.harvard.edu/administrators/hio_forms/DocRequestform.pdf and bring all materials to your school’s Registrar.* The information will be forwarded to your advisor at the HIO, who will issue a new I-20 for you.
