SCHOLARS

International scholars are strongly urged to have adequate medical insurance for themselves and for any accompanying family members. Teaching faculty earning at least $15,000 per year from Harvard and other University officers and staff who are employees of Harvard and work at least 17.5 hours weekly are eligible for one of the many plans available under the University benefits program. All questions about these options are handled by Benefits Consultants in the Office of Human Resources (sixth floor of Holyoke Center, 1350 Massachusetts Avenue). To find out the name of the Benefits Consultant for your area or department, call 496-4001.

Scholars not eligible for the University benefits program, but with Harvard University IDs, are eligible for the Harvard Student and Affiliate Health Plan. To enroll, take the Harvard ID and a copy of the Harvard appointment form to Member Services, first floor, HUHS, 75 Mt. Auburn Street or the HUHS Clinic in the Medical Area at 275 Longwood Avenue in Boston. Please note that the Student and Affiliate Plan is available only in blocks of six months. Consequently, scholars and their dependents may enroll in the Harvard Student and Affiliate Plan only during the months of August and February. Scholars and their families arriving at other times may choose to backdate enrollment to conform to those times. The HIO has an alternative health insurance plan , the International Scholar Health Insurance Plan (ISHIP) for those choose not to enroll in the Harvard Student and Affiliate Plan.
